Girl Plays Flute into the Rock Band Microphone

MsFrizzyHair on youtube, also known as Danielle in the real world, realized that she could play her flute into the microphone, while she plays Rock Band. She randomly discovered that playing an instrument actually works as a vocal in the game. This happens because the game looks for only pitch and tone, and not the actual lyrics of the song. She embarrassingly admits this is something she does when she doesn’t feel like practicing. We say rock on Danielle and keep on making some more videos. These clips will undoubtedly make you more famous than playing a flute inside a subway station.
The song of choice is  “Afterlife” by Avenged Sevenfold, and she scored a 98% while playing on expert.

South Park Boys Play Rock Band

During last night’s episode of South Park, Stan was upset about the Japanese killings all the whales around the globe. Trying to figure out what he could do, he went over Cartman‘s house where he saw the boys playing Rock Band and jamming to Lady Gaga’s Poker Face.” Watch the video up top of them doing just that, and listen to Cartman sing considerably better than Ms. Gaga. Well…at least I think so.

Warning: This version of the song will most definitely be stuck in your head for days.

Drummer Nick Mason Would Consider a Pink Floyd Music Game

It’s no secret that older musicians are not to thrilled with the idea of the whole music genre in videogames. They somehow believe that these plastic instruments will deter kids from actually playing with the real ones. While I totally disagree with this theory and actually think it encourages the kids to give an actual guitar a try; this is a real concern in the music community.

Nick Mason, who is the drummer for the legendary band Pink Floyd, is also agreeing with the countless musicians who are not a fan of this particular genre. Though, he’s willing to set aside his beliefs for a moment, why? For the all almighty mighty-dollar, of course. “I think we’d consider it,” Mason said, when ask if there is a possibility of a Pink Floyd rhythm game. “Everyone’s looking at new ways of selling the music because the business of selling records has almost disappeared.”

It’s great to know Mason is willing to set aside his own principle to make a little extra cash. Remember, we are currently in a global recession and the last thing I would want to see is Pink Floyd checking out the dollar menu at McDonald’s.

If we ever do see the day when Rock Band: Pink Floyd is launched, I really hope the song I embedded above is included. It’s also the perfect theme for this post.

Video: What if Radiohead Had Their Own Rock Band Game

Rock Band: Radiohead Edition – Watch more Funny Videos

Okay, let me first start off by saying Radiohead is absolutely my favorite band today. I’ve had the privilege to see them preform a few shows and own everything they’ve released, plus more. I don’t think there is another rock group today that influences artists like the UK-based band. Really for me, only one other group comes close and that would be the legendary Beatles.

With all that said, I laughed at the clip up top. While there are millions of Radiohead fans out there, there are plenty of haters. To be honest, I can understand their point of view, but I don’t agree them. The video up top kinda pokes fun at what many of the non-RH fans out there complain about. While I love the lead singer’s voice, Thom York, many people think it sounds like whining. So break.com, decided to parody what kind of party would Radiohead fans put on, if a Radiohead: Rock Band was actually released.

Pearl Jam’s Next Entire Album to be Released in Rock Band

backspacer
On September 20th, Pearl Jam is releasing their ninth studio album titled Backspacer. According to reports, the album sounds like a mixture of New Wave and Pop.

Today, Billboard has reported that the entire new album will be available for Rock Band the day its released into stores. This won’t be the first time Pearl Jam has worked with MTV and Harmonix. Not long ago, the group released what could be their greatest album yet, Ten, into the Rock Band universe.

It’s also being said that Target will have a special edition CD, which will allow gamers access to the songs for Rock Band. As of now, it sounds like the deal will only be available to Xbox Live and PlayStation Network members. I really wish more bands would do offers like this for their album in the future. It makes perfect sense for the record company and the developers. Basically, it’s a win-win situation for both companies, I just don’t see bands/labels don’t approach either Guitar Hero or Rock Band when a big named band releases a new album.

Below is the full tracking listing for Backspacer. If you want to hear samples of the music, just head over to Pearl Jam’s website.

*”Gonna See My Friend”
*”Got Some”
*”The Fixer”
*”Johnny Guitar”
*”Just Breathe”
*”Amongst the Waves”
*”Unthought Known”
*”Supersonic”
*”Speed of Sound”
*”Force of Nature”
*”The End”

Aerosmith Drummer Defends Music Games

JoeyKramer

We already heard about the ‘musical geniuses’ who have spoken out against music videogames. From artists like Prince to Jimmy Page, we heard many talents express their displeasure in a genre that has become a pop-culture phenomenon.

However, not all artists are against the new craze. Drummer of the legendary band Aerosmith Joey Kramer, spoke nicely about games like Guitar Hero and/or Rock band, with Spinner. Kramer believes that these type of games are a gateway for kids to learn about classic music and maybe get them more involved with music as a whole.

If that’s what you gotta do to get kids to understand what a band like Aerosmith’s all about and encourage them to learn more about the music, then that’s just one more way to find out about it,” Kramer said. Although he admitted that videogames might not be the best way for people to learn about music. “It may not be the most ideal way to find out about historic bands, but we’ll see what happens when they offer those guys boat-loads of money. We’ll see if they turn it down or not.”

While I 100 percent agree with Mr. Kramer about kids being more entice to play or even learn about music, I wonder if he would have felt the same way if Guitar Hero: Aerosmith was never made. If the reports are true, the amount of money the game had made, was more than any record the Band released in their long history. Not only that, Aerosmith saw a 40% increase of their catalog the week after Guitar Hero: Aerosmith was released. Basically, Kramer has literally millions of thanks because of music rhythm games.

Mass Gov. Deval Patrick Talks Up Guitar Hero

Democratic Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, is doing everything he can to lure gaming publishers and/or studios to move from their current locations to the Bay State. His excitement of the possible economic boom because of the videogame industry, is starting to ooze out of him. During a town hall meeting in Arlington, the Governor talked a little bit about Guitar Hero.

“This is not your father’s [Route] 128. You know that ‘Guitar Hero’? That was invented here. It was built here.”

Gov. Patrick was speaking about Harmonix who developed the first two Guitar Heros, and they are now the creators of the Rock Band series. We should note that Rt. 128 is known as a technology hub of Massachusetts. While Rt. 128 definitely has its companies along the highway like; Raytheon, Sun Microsystems and Raytheon, Harmonix is nowhere near the route.

Harmonix is located in Cambridge, which is right next to the city of Boston and miles away from Rt. 128.

Green Day Announced as DLC for Rock Band

We pretty much already knew Harmonix grabbed the rights to include Green Day in their popular Rock Band game. The rumors started to leaked this past week through various interviews and reports.  The only thing I didn’t know was if the company was planning on shipping a full Green Day game, much like The Beatles: Rock Band which is coming out later this year, or if it was just some downloadable content. Today we finally get the answer.

MTV and Harmonix have announced that Green Day will be an exclusive download for Rock Band, and starting on July 7th owners of the game will be able to purchase three songs. The first songs included in the pack are “21 Guns,” “Know Your Enemy” and “East Jesus Nowhere,” which are all from the band’s newest album ‘21st Century Breakdown.’ The company plans on bringing even more songs to the mix down the line.

Like I said before, I really think Green Day could be a perfect band for a rhythm game like Rock Band. Not only do most people enjoy their music, but their songs have a lot of feeling in them and should translate really well with our plastic instruments.

I also believe Harmonix could have (and I would have preferred) had a completely separate game for Green Day — just like the Beatles. To be honest, as much as I love the Beatles — I think Green Day might have been easier to market to the gamer demographic. I understand that both Harmonix and MTV are hoping to bring a new type a gamer into the fold with The Beatles: Rock Band. I’m just not sold on the idea yet.

I do believe The Beatles: Rock Band game will sell well, but I’m not convinced it’ll go on and sell millions upon millions. I just don’t know if the younger generation really cares about the history of The Beatles. Where I think a Green Day: Rock Band did have the potential to do just that.

Of course, if Harmonix were to release both bands as their own separate videogame, they run the risk of flooding the market. This is something Activision has been doing for a while now, and they’re on the verge of killing their own Guitar Hero franchise down the line.
