Cool Stuff: Pac-Man Oven Mitts

The next time I show the world that I burnt my cookies, I want to use these oven mitts. The Pac-Man mitts are made from silicone and sell for $14.95. And are promised to “keep your hand safe from burns and your heart full of nostalgic pride from your days on the high score table.”

Combine that with the Space Invaders ice trays, the next time you have a party, you’ll be considered the geekest person on earth. Which depending on your personalty, that label could be a good or bad thing.

Want one? Click here. [Thanks Rich]

Video: Pac-Man in Real Life

PAC MAN (REMI GAILLARD)
by nqtv

Not to long ago, Rémi Gaillard made a video that we featured, which showed him reenacting Mario Kart on the streets of France. Obviously it wasn’t safe, but it produced laughter and entertainment for a lot of people.

Galillard is up to his crazy antics once again, however, in this video he was inspired by Pac-Man. He dressed up as the yellow video game star, while his buddies were the ghosts. All of them ran amuck through a grocery store, pool hall and golf course — annoying all who got in their way. Some people were not so amused by their clowning around and it resulted in violence to demonstrate their frustration.

Meaning, people got hurt while making this video. So, you should enjoy it that much more.

What if Pac-Man was Invented in the 1880′s?

What if legendary Tōru Iwatani game designer was born in the 1880′s? If he still have a passion for gaming, it couldn’t have been in video game form, so he would have had to improvise. Doktor A has created a piece of art work, which is inspired by that very notion. If he somehow made a game which reminded us of Pac-Man, it would have been titled ‘The Pac-Gentleman‘ because you know… They were classy back then.

The hand made sculptural up top, is a one-of-a-kind and genisouly called “The Secret History of Video Games: Pac Gentleman.” I absolutely love the old gritty look, it really makes it look like time hasn’t been kind to the machine. He also nailed the 19th century paintings, which cover the the cabinet.

Doktor even wrote a mock trivia and history about Pac-Man.

“When this game was first released in 1880 it was so hugely popular in taverns and inns that the bank of England was forced to mint more threepenny bits to keep up with demand. The game was created by messrs Nam & Nam and Co. as a novelty pastime for the masses. Outdoing the previous top public house game of Shove Ha’penny.“

The picture is a little old and was first unveiled back in 2007, but I’m sure many people are seeing this for the first time.

Cool Stuff: Who Pacs the Pac-Men? (Shirt)

“Who Pacs the Pac-men? ” Who knows and who cares, this shirt is awesome nonetheless. T-shirt designer/artist James Lillis made this Watchmen parody shirt. Obviously he brilliantly replaced the famous happy face with the blood stain on it from the ‘Comedian,’ and replaced it with…Pac-man. I wish I had bought this shirt before I went to see a screening of the movie — damn. Oh well, there is always the day when I buy it on Blu-Ray.

If you want to purchase the shirt for $29.94, click here.

LOL: Cobra Commander in Pac-Man

It’s a little unknown fact that when Cobra Commander was trying to hit-it-big in the entertainment industry, he took a job as a ghost in 1980 in Namco’s Pac-Man. Shortly have that, he starred in G.I. Joe; which defined his career.

Although his time was limited in the classic game, Oliver Barrett found an old promotion poster for the game.*

*It’s a joke…ha ha (right?).

Cool Stuff: The Ghosts of Pac-Man T-Shirts

For some reason, when I was young; I thought the ghosts of Pac-Man looked kind of like a t-shirt. Maybe because the graphics on a old arcade machine didn’t give me much ‘ghost’ detail — so, my brain thought they were shirts by the shape. I know it’s strange, but that is what they reminded me of. Because of my  imagination as a child, I fell in love with these shirts instantly.

As you can tell, the shirts have the faces of Inky, Blinky, Pinky and Clyde. I love how if I were to where these, the faces would be my chest and torso. The guys who designed these, even had some shirts that made the expression of the ghosts right before Pac-Man attacked them.

If you want to find about how you can purchase them, click here.

Pac-Man Christmas Tree

Nothing says Christmas like an animated tree featuring Pac-Man. The tree is in Madrid Spain and displays three separate sides with Pac-Man running away from each of the infamous ghosts, while gobbling up his ‘pac-dots.’

/Gamer has given this tree the ‘Best Ever Christmas Tree‘ award and we wish that we had something similar here in San Francisco!

Proof: Obama Likes Pac-Man

How cool is this, not only does President-elect Barack Obama use a MacBook but also puts stickers on the back of his computer. He’s a total geek! The best part — it’s a freaking Pac-Man image eating the Apple’s logo.

Putting his politics aside — I think everyone could agree this picture is awesome.

Cool Stuff: Incredibly Detailed Pac-Man Pumpkins

These have to be some of the coolest carved pumpkins we’ve ever seen. David Adams decided to take ‘Sugar Pie pumpkins’ and carve them into Pac Man and two of the ghost that hunt the yellow inspired pizza. By far, the best part about the project are the ghosts and the level of detail he put into them. Notice on the bottom of them, he even had the pixels carved out. Incredible stuff, I find it even more amazing because I can barley cut out a face on my pumpkins.

After the jump, read how he did it and look at more pictures.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Japan Company Nintendo introduces the Nintendo Entertainment System

Japanese company Nintendo issued a press release announcing a new video game system called: the Nintendo’s Entertainment System. Nintendo promises excitement for the whole family with an included game called Super Mario Brothers. The player will control a little character named Mario through various lands, jumping on mushroom men and little turtles, all while stealing coins and eating other kinds of mushrooms that make you larger at times.

We had the privilege to sit down with the creator of the game Shigeru Miyamoto.

We very happy to bring you new game system. We feel that Mario will be fun time for whole family. I have great time to create game and hope you enjoy very much.

As much as we would love to see another video game unit with our brand new Magnavox 25″ color television (yeah that’s right, we have money) next to our Video Cassette Recorder, we just don’t see anyone else buying it. With the success of the arcades, why would the masses want to sit at home and play on a television. Gaming is meant to be played with people in a arcade center. On top of it, a game of Pac-Man ONLY costs only 25 cents, compared to a blistering $199 for the home video game console and maybe as much as $50 bucks for each game. And seriously, I don’t see this Mario guy selling anything, heck he was a secondary character in Donkey Kong. We’ve already had the fad of the home gaming console with Atari and it failed. Unfortunately for this Nintendo company, it seems like they will suffer the same fate.

Check out the sexy system shots as well as the gorgeous screens of the game below.
