Fanboys Ruin MetaCritic Feature

Look fanboy’s, you’ve ruined a feature that is on MetaCritic. If some of you don’t know, before LittleBigPlanet was released in stores — jealous fanboys that couldn’t own the game because they didn’t have a PS3 decided to bash it. One way they figured out how to make the game seem like it’s a failure was to go on to MetaCritic and give it a low ‘user score.’ As opposed to doing the classy thing and admit their system doesn’t feature a game that they obviously want — they need to criticizes it as much as they can.

Now, with Gears of War 2 on the horizon, more fanboys needed to express their hatred by giving it a low score — even without playing it. As of now, the game is receiving an average score from actual critics a 94/100. However, users are giving it a dismal score of 3.5/10. This new way of ‘bashing’ has got so out of control, the editor of the site had to take action. March Doyle confirmed with 1up that they are going to make sure in the future, this won’t happen again.

“My advice for our faithful users is to focus your attention on the Metascore for this game and not the thousands of user votes, most of which have been submitted before said users have played the game. This is a gaming community, and if people want to stuff the ballot box, there’s not much I can do at this point. When we upgrade the registration requirements for participation on the site in the near future, this type of thing won’t happen. We’ll post the full legitimate user reviews upon the game’s release. As always, thanks for using the site.”

So, thank you fanboys, a featured that we once had is now gone because of your immaturity. However, this isn’t just limited to MetaCritic and the video games world. According to /film, during this past summer — many fanboys of ‘The Dark Knight‘ decided to go on IMDB and try to lower the score of the ‘Godfather.’ What that ultimately did was briefly had the Batman flick become the number one movie of all time. Pretty pathetic if you ask us.

Gears of War 2: 20,000 Retail Stores are Having a Midnight Launch

Microsoft’s flagship title for this holiday season Gears of War 2 is set to be released in just a few days. Retailers are also planning the game to become a smash hit because according to Microsoft, as many as 20,000 stores across the globe are participating in a midnight launch. Meaning, if you’re wondering if your local game store is having a midnight opening — the answer is probably yes.

To promote the game, certain electronic retailers have been chosen to be a “marquee” location and will also be giving away prizes and include ‘special guests’, in addition to selling the game. The three cities selected are London, New York and Los Angeles.

After the jump, read exactly which stores have been chosen and what they’ll be giving away as well as who is going to show up.  (more…)

Launch Trailer for Gears of War 2

The launch trailer for Gears of War 2 is now online. Unlike the last video where we saw teamwork between the main characters with pretty music playing in the background — instead we get a crap-load of action, with F’n a ton of explosions.

Epic Studios is not only promising the fantastic gameplay that we loved in the original game, but guaranteeing it will be better. They also swear this time around the story surrounding the game will be great and that was the main focus when they were creating the game. However, judging by the voiceovers in the trailer — the acting probably wasn’t as important to them because it sounded somewhat poor. Hopefully that doesn’t effect us enjoying the plot of the game.
Gears of War 2 will be released in stores on November 7, 2008.

Gears of War 2 Boss Battle Leaked

Update: As you can tell when you press play — the video is no longer available…

**Spoiler Alert — Spoiler Alert**. Ok, you’ve been warned. The user cupcakerum leaked a video of an epic boss battle in Gears of War 2 and it’s nothing like anything we’ve seen in the previous Gears.

The 1:54 clip shows Marcus Fenix on some kind of boat on the water. The music is intense so obviously something big is about to happen. Then suddenly a tentacle rises from the water and slams on the boat — its up to the player not to get hit by it. At points, the tentacle seems to get stuck on the raft and Marcus runs over to it and chainsaws it, with blood going all over the screen. After a few times of the tentacles getting sawed off, some HUGE water monster appears and bites down on the boat.

Although we’re not sure how to defeat him overall — we do know not to get to close because the guy playing the game did and now he’s dead.

R.I.P. Marcus Fenix

Gears of War’s “Last Day” Trailer

Do you remember the ‘Mad World‘ trailer that came out for the original Gears of War in 2006? It was probably one of the better gaming advertisements in the history of the industry. With the sequel right around the corner, it looks like Epic Games is trying to recreate something similar to Mad World with their new trailer.

The one minute trailer features the song “How it Ends” by the Denver band Devotchka. The video shows off some of your favorite stars from the game as opposed to just one. While the trailer is obviously trying to capture the feel of ‘Mad World,’ which gave the viewer a human element. This one is a little different. The first trailer in 2006 was showing Marcus Fenix being alone in a world which was destroyed around him. The new commercial is about team work and how they must stick together as a ‘family’ in order to survive.

Beautiful stuff!

Gamer Receives Gears of War 2 Early and Grabs Screens From the Game

A user on the neogaf forums somehow received an advance copy of Epic‘s shooter, Gears of War 2. To brag about his achievement — he decided to take pictures and share it to everyone on the internet. Keep in mind they are not screen captures and are taken off-screen, so you do see pixels from the television-display. However you do get an idea of what to expect in the game. Of course that could be a problem for some of you because it could be considered a ‘spoiler.’ But thanks to our trusty ‘continue reading button,’ it is completely up to you if you want to view them… (more…)

Two New Gameplay Videos of Gears of War 2

We’re just a little over a month away until Microsoft releases their biggest title of this holiday season — Gears of War 2. To get you ready for the 3-person shooter, we’ve embedded two new videos of the campaign mode. The videos showoff the Landown and Hospital missions. Both videos not only show epic boss battles but it also showcases the new achievement tracker featured in the game and it’s appears on the bottom right hand corner.

The footage of Gears is after the jump, and just a bit of a warning — the gameplay videos do show some in-game cutscenes, if you don’t want to be spoiled than don’t bother. But if you’re unsure, it’s nothing major so, we recommend checking it out. (more…)

Gears of War Zune Skin From Microsoft

Who in the hell owns a Zune. I kid you not, since the Zune was released in 2006, I’ve literally seen one — that’s right, one person have a Zune in their possession! The device once called the iPod killer has turned into the Microsoft dud. Even though it hasn’t even come close to the numbers of Apple’s MP3 player, Microsoft has yet to stop trying to market the player to certain demographics.

Today, we have word MS is trying to go after hardcore gamer who loves Gears of War — with a Gears of War 2 Zune skin, just in time before the same game is released.

On November 7th (launch day of GOW 2), the computer giant plans on releasing a 120GB Zune media player. The unit will have a laser engrave (Star Wars sh*t here) the Gears of War logo on the back. It will also include “244 pieces of media,” which should consist of art, screenshots and maybe music from the game. The ‘Zune of War‘ is expected to cost $280$30 more than the regular 120GB model. All we have to say is, we’ll pass…

Gears of War 2 Blowout: News, Screens and Info

If you own an Xbox 360 and you’re not excited about Gears of War 2, than you should probably trade in your system. Not only will GOW 2 overtake Call of Duty 4 and Halo 3 for the gamers choice for Xbox Live killing, but should trail only GTA IV  in terms of sales for the console.

Today we have some news regarding the shooter. After months of speculating that the ‘Skorge Locust‘ (Top) will in fact, be playable in Multiplayer. The news comes from addictgaming who had the pleasure to sit down with Cliff “Don’t call me Cliffy B.” Bleszinski. During the chat, Bleszinski not only confirmed the ‘Skorge‘ is selectable, but he’ll also be tweaked so he won’t be an unstoppable character on Live. The most noticeable change for the large locust will be his staff — the weapon will be useless in multiplayer battles.

While speaking with TVG, Bleszinski went into some detail why Epic Studios and himself decided not to release GOW 2 for PC gamers, and they blame those greedy pirates…ARGGGG!:

“Here’s the problem right now; the person who is savvy enough to want to have a good PC to upgrade their video card, is a person who is savvy enough to know bit torrent to know all the elements so they can pirate software.”

Makes perfect sense to us, if you look also at the sales regarding the original Gears of War for the PC compared to the Xbox 360, the numbers are not even close. On top of that, the reviews for the game were considerably worse for the PC version. Combine that with the steal hungry pirates (ARG!). It probably was the right business decision.

Although, I’m sure PC fanboys are now going to repeatably say how Gears of War always sucked and shouldn’t be on the PC. Remember boys and girls, jealousy eats you away…

According to a poster (who got the news from Gamepro) on the Evil Avatar Forums Gears of War 2 will ship with a code that gives the player the ability to download five maps from the original game for FREE! The maps include: Mansion (yes!), Subway, Gridlock and Tyro Station. The code looks to be packed in with every copy of GOW 2, although nothing has been confirmed.

And lastly, thanks to Epic, we have tons of screens for Gears 2. Check them all out after the Jump. And don’t forget, Gears of War 2 is dated to be released on November 7, 2008. (more…)

Gears of War 2 NOT Coming to the PC

Cliff Bleszinski, the creator of Gears of War has also made a comment while speaking to IGN on how Gears of War 2 will be an exclusive on the Xbox 360, and how it will not be ported over to the PC like the original game.

“Gears of War is a great franchise first and foremost for Xbox 360, and therefore we’re focusing on that platform for Gears of War 2. We’ve decided we’re not going to do a PC version this time around.”

Some people around the forums are wondering what made Epic Games to decide just to go with the Xbox 360 and not it’s big brother-the PC. I’ve heard some people even go as far to say that Epic does not believe the game is going to be critically acclaim like its predecessor. We seem to think that Epic has made the decision based off the sales of the first game on the PC, and the lower review scores it received.

It’s actually not that big of a deal in reality. Although, I find it hypocritical to see the VP of Epic, Mark Rein help start the PC Gaming Alliance. For those who are unfamiliar with the alliance, it was announced back at GDC where it’s mission was to save PC gaming. While most of the press that attended their announcement found it almost laughable, the founders of the group seemed to believe in it. But seeing Mark Rein‘s company starting to focus just on consoles now, I’m not sure how much HE truly believes in it.
