Skate 2 receives a 9.5/10!

It has been pretty slow in the Xbox 360 release market, but a couple big titles are coming within the week. Afro Samori and Skate 2 will be shipping before we know it.

I recently played the Skate 2 Demo, which is available on the Xbox Live Marketplace, and it’s pretty enjoyable. This download is a timed Demo, meaning, you have so much time to reach checkpoints, and when you do, you get rewarded more time. If you make it through all the checkpoints in the demo, the remaining time is given as time to free-skate.

If you’ve played the original Skate, the controls are pretty much the same. In Skate 2, you can now get off your board a walk around. This give the possibility to skate areas you recently couldn’t get to. Getting off of your board also allows you to move specific objects, such as dumpsters and ramps. Skate 2 takes place in the same city as the original, but with much more security cracking down on the skating community. The old spots are locked down, and the new spots don’t stick around too long. has the first review (that I’ve seen) for Skate 2, giving it a 9.5 out of 10. They even get pretty bold stating…

…right now this is the best extreme sports game of all time. Get it!

This is a pretty solid review and is a good read. Whether or not Skate 2 is the “…best extreme sports game of all time”, I guess we’ll have to wait to get our hands on the full game and see for ourselves.

Two Are Charged W/Assault for Gaming Drum Kit

We unfortunately bring to you yet another story of mindless violence over video game hardware. On December 29th, a pair of total morons made their way into an apartment and continued to attack and threaten a family. And for what? Video game drums. (not that the violent theft of anything is acceptable).

One of the two teens, Thomas Joy, age 17, faces some pretty steep (and deserving) charges in the matter…

One first-degree assault charge alleges he struck the man living in the apartment in the face with a baseball bat, causing “visible cuts” to his mouth, according to court documents. A second-degree assault charge alleges he then kicked the man in the face and torso multiple times “under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life,…”

It was even reported that there were children at the scene who witnessed one of the teens put a blade to one of the victims throat.

It kills me to read news articles of this sort. What people do to just to get their hands on something so trivial. Heck, if I knew it was this easy to get myself some drums for my Xbox 360, I wouldn’t have gone to college and started earning a decent wage to legally purchase my hardware.

Most Popular ‘Online’ Xbox 360 Games of 2008

Microsoft recently revealed a few lists of games showing the most played titles online in 2008 via the Xbox 360. I’m sure you’ll find it interesting that there are two games prior to 2008 that beat out one of the biggest games of the year, Grand Theft Auto IV.

Its also great to see some classic games are still making a move in the gaming industry through Xbox Live Arcade, such as Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and Doom.

Check out the full lists after the jump! (more…)

New Chronicles of Riddick Game Trailer

Atari has released a trailer for The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena. Vin Diesel reprises his roll as the voice of Riddick in the 2nd game in this popular sci-fi series.

This trailer is choc-full-o’ clips from cut scenes as well as FPS gameplay. And, if you look closely, the possibility of some 3rd person gameplay. (check it out at the 52 second mark of the video, not sure if this is part of a cut scene, or gameplay… you be the judge!)

After watching this trailer, I can’t wait to get my hands on this. I was a huge fan of Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay on the original Xbox, and enjoy the movie series as well. I hope this game adds to the story and entertainment value of the Riddick saga!

Review: Dead Space

Let me start off by saying that Dead Space is not a scary game. It tries, but doesn’t quite deliver the scares of the “horror” game its advertised to be. BUT… that does not mean that the game sucks

In Dead Space, you control Isaac Clarke, an engineer who’s team is sent to locate and repair a ship named the USG Ishimura in a rather distant future. The USG Ishimura is one of many ships that “cracks” other planets in the universe to suck its resources and return them to a dying Earth to be consumed. Isaac and his crew quickly find that the ship has been taken over by some alien life form and get stranded with no choice but to make the ship operational themselves, and regain communications as an only hope for survival.

Preview: JamLegend

Recently, we receive an invite to try out JamLegend.

JamLegend is a new product in the works by Launchbox Digital. The basic idea of JamLegend is to bring interactive music gaming online for free! The basic ideas used by huge titles such as Guitar Hero, Rock Band and Rock Revolutions, but no console required… just an internet connection (and a keyboard that will become your 5-string guitar!). The title included three levels of difficulty. Easy, Medium and Hard. As in Rock Band and Guitar Hero, Easy mode is just frets 1 through 3, Medium 1 through 4 and naturally, hard uses all 5.

JamLegend has gone as far as allowing real-time showdowns with other users online, as well as turn-based duels. The music library is designed to become virtually unlimited as bands are encouraged to upload their music to promote themselves through this very ambitious and well polished project! There are currently 37 artists with anywhere from 1 to 11 tracks of their work available to play! These artists include: Alternative Rock band Kill The Alarm from New York City, Double Stamp out of Claremont, California and Blue Judy from Los Angeles, California, just to name a few. (more…)
