Madden 14 Dated; Evidence Suggests that EA is Planning on Releasing Madden Biyearly

Technically speaking, the 2012 NFL season has yet to be determined, and EA has already announced Madden 14‘s release date, which is on August 27th, 2013. The news comes from the official website which already has a logo and is celebrating 25 years of Madden video-game football.

This is the only information that is available because underneath the logo, it just says “Madden 25 coming soon.” Which I guess means that more details are forthcoming. IGN is suggesting that because it reads “Madden 25 coming soon,” EA is planning on releasing Madden bi-yearly cycle, instead of the typical year-to-year pattern.

If you look at the actual logo, you’ll notice that 14 is missing. Again, it just says Madden 25 years, though the top part of the image does have the dates 1989 – 2014.

It has been rumored, or at the very least, talked about, that EA might benefit more on releasing Madden on a biyearly cycle because the series has seen a dramatic decrease in units sold year after year. They could just continue to update that year’s current title, and maybe even have paid downloadable content to add features. Then developers have two years to develop a new game, and because of that, the mechanics of the game might be so dramatically changed when compared to what happens now on a yearly cycle, that the hype that Madden used to receive in its heyday, might see a resurgence.

I wouldn’t be surprised, especially after seeing the sales decrease these last few years, that EA is rethinking how the franchise is released.
