Ubisoft: New Prince of Persia Put on the Shelve For Now
Last year screens were leaked that had many guessing there was a new Prince of Persia on the way. After hearing nothing since then, we get some dreadful info to report. IGN is reporting, after talking to Ubisoft Montreal CEO Yannis Mallet, that the series is on the shelve for now, citing the problem with greenlighting the project is brand management.
“Brand management is a tricky thing,” Mallet said. “It needs people’s attention a lot. I think it’s fair to say that, right now, Prince of Persia is being paused.” Although, he assured fans the series isn’t dead, it’s just in need of the eve so important break.
“We said the same thing for some other brands that suddenly popped up because a team is willing to do it,” Mallet continued. “I’m not scared at all for Prince of Persia fans. We’ll find something to entertain them in the future. Prince of Persia is part of Ubisoft’s portfolio. As a matter of fact, we sometimes iterate on franchises and sometimes we give them time to breathe and time to grow, or time to rest.”
Prince of Persia has always had the critical reception most games would love, since it was rebooted in 2003. Sadly, that wasn’t the only reboot the series had transition into because while they always had good to great review scores, for whatever reason, the games were never a financial success. At the very least the sales numbers didn’t live up to praise from fans and critics alike that you would expect.
Even with a Disney Movie released in 2010, the series still had a hard time earning the respect with the general gamers. Hopefully with this time off, Ubisoft can figure out a better way to market the series.
