Wii U’s Virtual Console Games Incompatible With Original Wii Saves

When the Virtual Console is fully functional on the Nintendo Wii U, players who purchased the retro games on the online service using the original Wii, will be able to re-download them at no additional cost, Kotaku has learned. That’s the good news.

The bad news is if they had a save point in their original purchase, they won’t be able to export that to the Wii U. So basically they’ll be forced to start over, which may or may not be an enormous issue, depending on the old-school game.

This doesn’t come as a shocker since their isn’t a cloud service for the Wii. On top of that, the Wii U’s VC games is updated slightly from the Wii version. One of the bigger changes is the ability to customize the button layout for each individual game. Players can also change the button mapping for any of the controllers they wish to use, including the Wii U Gamepad, Pro Controller or the WiiMote.
