Sega: Yakuza Announcement Coming
Update: Japanese publication Famitsu is confirming that Sega is indeed releasing an HD remake of Yakuza 1 & 2, and will be released in November in Japan.
Sega is planning some sort of announcement regarding the Yakuza series, which sounds like whatever it is will be unveiled on July 19. The teaser is being translated by sites in Japan, which shows an image and a countdown timer, that ends in on July 19.
As Andriasang noted, this teaser is coming from the main Yakuza site, and not the official site for Yakuza 5, which they feel indicates a HD remake for Yakuza 1 & 2. Apparently, a release schedule was leaked last week, which had these remakes on them, even though Sega had yet to officially announce anything.
Since the series debuted in 2009 in Japan, the franchise has gone on to sell over 4 million copies. Because of the success in Japan, Sega decided to release the games States-side, and it saw success on the hardcore level gamer demographic. The game has also expanded to a Japanese film, along with other entertainment mediums.
Considering the success Sega has seen with the Yakuza, and the fact a date was leaked for remakes of the first two games, it’s an easy bet that the company is planning to announce an HD version of the first two Yakuza.
The bigger question is whether or not America or other regions will get this remake.
