E3 2012: Microsoft Introduces SmartGlass for Xbox 360
With a swipe of a button, Xbox users will soon be able to finish a film on their Xbox 360, that they were previous watching on their tablet, much like Apple’s Airplay, thanks to a new feature that was just unveiled at Microsoft’s E3 press conference.
Starting this fall, Microsoft will release SmartGlass on Xbox Live, which will allow users to control their Xbox 360 with any touch smartphone or tablet.
Not only will users be able to watch finish films, but they will be able to interact with games, much like the Wii U does with its tablet like controller. That alone should help developers port games that could only work with the Wii U, to Xbox 360.
I’m not entirely confident it will run nearly as smooth as the Wii U’s controller because of the amount of devices that is needed to ensure everyone can use this feature.
While it certainly has some potential, I just don’t see it being a game changer in the videogame industry, nor is it innovative by any stretch of the imagination.
