Forbes: Sony Working with AMD on PlayStation 4
Forbes is reporting that Sony is indeed working on a predecessor to the PlayStation 3, and even went revealed which company is working on the processor for the console.
According to the publication, former AMD employees have suggested that the company is working graphics technology for the new system. Currently, Sony relies on Nvidia for the graphics chip in the PS3.
Since 2005, Microsoft has relied on AMD for the graphics technology for their Xbox 360, and there has yet to be word if Microsoft plans on using the same chip-maker for the 360′s successor.
It should be noted that AMD’s Thomas Seifert promised major revenue growth beyond 2012 because of the gaming industry. You have to figure, if both Sony and Microsoft have AMD locked up for their future systems, AMD is going to see their profits exceed any period they’ve ever had.
