Nintendo: Sales Down 40%

Nintendo has been riding high since they released their Wii console. They are the leader of systems sold in both the portable market, as well the home consoles. Currently, the Wii has sold approximately 52 million units worldwide, while the DS is sitting at 107 million.

Recently, however, the Japanese based company has been having some rough times. They just released their financial statement for their previous quarter earnings. Unfortunately for the company, they saw a 40 percent decrease in net sales when compared to last year. Obviously, we can blame  this on the economic global downturn, but Nintendo also issued a statement.

“In the console business, there were fewer blockbuster software titles that briskly drove hardware sales this June quarter versus the same period a year ago when titles like Mario Kart Wii and Wii Fit were launch in overseas markets.”

Don’t worry Nintendo fanboys, the company isn’t going out of business anytime soon. While their net income was down about 60 percent, they still made ¬•42.3 billion. Yeah, Iwata and friends are still swimming in money, its just a little more shallow now.
