DJ Hero Box Art: Is Activision Promoting the Game Towards Women?

DJHeroBoxArt

DJ Hero isn’t getting the best response by gamers around the world, but I’m excited for it. Today, the company has just released the official box art for the game and I’m not sure what people will think about it. I know girls are more into gaming then ever before, but seriously Activision, this box is a tad too ‘girly,’ for my taste.

I’m not too sure how familiar you guys are with ‘Tokidoki,’ but it’s “Lifestyle brand” company, which is best known for making bags… for girls. The art style, namely the colors for the DJ Hero reminds me of Tokidoki.

Maybe Activision believes DJ Hero will sell better if they advertise it for women, as opposed to men. When the first trailer hit the web last month, it distinctively showed a woman ‘Djing’ in the game. While the video was playing, the song “Hollaback Girl” was remixed with other songs, but the trailer clearly wanted the audience watching the video to hear Gwen Stefani. I don’t think most hardcore male gamers listen to that particular song.

I could certainly be stretching a connection between DJ Hero and Women, but the more I see about the rhythm game, the more I believe my own theory.

  1. Girly? Seriously? Because why? It has pink and purple on it? Grow up, most adults get past the “pink and purple are for girls” phase by their 20′s.
