Skate 2 receives a 9.5/10!
It has been pretty slow in the Xbox 360 release market, but a couple big titles are coming within the week. Afro Samori and Skate 2 will be shipping before we know it.
I recently played the Skate 2 Demo, which is available on the Xbox Live Marketplace, and it’s pretty enjoyable. This download is a timed Demo, meaning, you have so much time to reach checkpoints, and when you do, you get rewarded more time. If you make it through all the checkpoints in the demo, the remaining time is given as time to free-skate.
If you’ve played the original Skate, the controls are pretty much the same. In Skate 2, you can now get off your board a walk around. This give the possibility to skate areas you recently couldn’t get to. Getting off of your board also allows you to move specific objects, such as dumpsters and ramps. Skate 2 takes place in the same city as the original, but with much more security cracking down on the skating community. The old spots are locked down, and the new spots don’t stick around too long.
GamePlayer.com.au has the first review (that I’ve seen) for Skate 2, giving it a 9.5 out of 10. They even get pretty bold stating…
…right now this is the best extreme sports game of all time. Get it!
This is a pretty solid review and is a good read. Whether or not Skate 2 is the “…best extreme sports game of all time”, I guess we’ll have to wait to get our hands on the full game and see for ourselves.

IGN gave it an 8.3
and
IGN AU gave it a 7.8.
Upon reading both of these, which are very fair and cite new changes that work and those that don’t, I feel like I’ll probably agree with them and GamePlayer.com.au may not have thought very much about it.

I had a problem with IGN AU’s review though (the US IGN review wasn’t up yet at the time). In the breakdown of the score, not one area received under an 8.0… yet the final score was 7.8.
Either way i’m getting this game.
