Proof Why Grand Theft Auto DLC Not Coming Out Until Next Year

While speaking with Variety, Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser gave some disappointing news about the downloadable content that Xbox 360 user’s were promised to come out by the end of the year. While its still on track to be released for Microsoft exclusively, he’s just not sure if we’ll see it by the end of the year.

“Me: On another topic, I have to ask you about the “GTA IV” downloadable content you’re doing. Do you still expect that to come out this year?”

“DH: I’m not sure. It’s going well. But we don’t know a date. We hope to be announcing that in the next few weeks. We’re still figuring out a few things. We’re more focused on quality than dates, always have been. But the development is going really good. It’s shaping up to be something we’re very proud of. That was our goal.”

By saying “Not sure,” we’re ‘pretty sure’ that means we won’t be seeing any new content until next year. Considering as we write this article, the date is November 9th — 52 days until the year ends. If they don’t even have a date set and their still developing it, we’re probably not seeing it till 2009.

Here is even more proof. Houser said the content of the downloadable features are still being decided upon. “It’s new territory for everybody. We’re making it up a little bit as we go along,” he said. “That’s always fun, but it makes you nervous.”

Maybe we’re reading to much into it, but doesn’t it sound like their still creating new idea’s for the game? Meaning at this point, they’re not even close to being done. Not only do they have to implement the features into the game, they need to make sure bugs/glitches are not included with the download. Because of that, it could take weeks upon weeks of testing/developing. If that is the case, next year is the earliest we’ll see the DLC.
