Cool Stuff: Making Modern Games Look Like They’re On Original Game Gameboy

Did you ever want to see what Bioshock would look like it came out on the original Gameboy? How about Okami or even Assassin Creed? Now you can asked it’s readers to create what they think modern games would look like if they’re on Nintendo‘s old 8-bit portable system.

Above is Bioshock, and I’m going to go out on a limb here and say, I think 2K selected the right system.

Check out some of our favorites after the jump.

Resident Evil 4

Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

Prince of Persia

  1. The Big Daddy looks like a frog in an astronaut suit.

Who would’ve thought the first time we would see the protagonist of Bioshock would be in 8-bit?

  2. some of this titles have wwwwaaaaayyyyyyy too much detail. I know for a fact the Okami version could not be handled by the OG gameboy.

  3. Uh… Isn’t there already an oldschool prince of persia? You know, the one that they got the idea from…?

  4. LOL love the twilight princess one, i’d love to see more!

  5. Wow, great stuff, I would love to learn how to do that.

  6. Ummm…they made a Prince of Persia for the gameboy…

  7. MOAR!

  8. i’ve gotta agree with george and calymos; last time i checked, they made a prince of persia for regular gameboy waaay back in the early 90′s, and it didn’t really look like that at all…

now that i think about it, pretty much every nintendo system had a prince of persia. well, maybe not the virtual boy.

damn kids today. what’s next, an 8-bit version of ninja gaiden?

  9. I would totally play all of these.

  10. Why?
    Just why?

  11. The Prince of Persia shown is just the Aladdin game with a change in clothing

  12. I have Prince of Persia for original Gameboy….. It sucked.

  13. God, the prince of persia for the gameboy was terrible.

  14. Glad to see you guys know that prince of persia is older than Godsmack…

Ico doesn’t take well to 8-bit…Likely neither would Shadow of the Colossus….

But this is how portable gaming should be…As a PSP gamer, I was portable gaming was made simple again, like in those days…I just picked up N+ for it, just so I could old-school-portable game every once and a while…

  15. photoshopped

  16. Thank you for that wonderfully informative and observant comment, harry.

  17. wow nice, the burnout one even looks kinda like fun :)

  18. Ha ha, reminds me of Matt Hazard!

  19. I didn’t know Prince of Persia was for anything but the gameboy.

  20. AWESOME! great idea, thumbsup!

  21. did you guys fail to notice prince of persia was originally for the commodore 64 not the gameboy. the game predates the gameboy.

  22. I just want to point out that the idea of these pictures was to translate modern games (or their more modern versions) onto the old GameBoy. The amount of effort and detail put into these pics is outstanding. The point isn’t the games, but the art.

  23. A java 2d version of prince of Persia sands of time came out for mobile phones.

  24. god you’re all picky fuckers, just appreciate this for what it is.

  25. Honestly, who cares?
Why would you ever want to do this?

The games developed nowadays are made specifically for the platforms that they’re released on. This means that the graphics, controls, etc. were all tailored specifically to that console.

Why would I want to play a watered-down 8-bit version of something that I KNOW looks much more stunning, and is probably a lot more fun to play on a Xbox 360 or a PS3?

  26. Most epic win, I herd rumours of a PSP port of bioshock.

  27. What about assassins creeD!
